Former Novato Police Chief Brian Brady has released his third crime novel, Greed, a story that explores the world of international art forgery and theft.
Brady, who led the Novato Police Department for nearly 12 years and served with four other Bay Area police agencies, said his extensive law enforcement career continues to influence his writing. Greed follows a network of thieves operating across New York, Amsterdam, and Paris, successfully orchestrating a series of high-stakes art crimes.
“With this being my third book, I feel that I’m really hitting my stride as an author,” Brady said. “As readers will see by the cover, I’m expanding geographically too, with scenes taking place in other countries. That being said, I’ve spent most of my life in the Bay Area, and San Francisco plays a significant role in Greed, just as it did in my previous two books.”
Brady’s prior novels, Hiding in Plain Sight and Oh, What a Tangled Web, also draw heavily from his Bay Area experiences. Hiding in Plain Sight focuses on the abduction of a young girl by a serial killer in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood. Oh, What a Tangled Web delves into the dark world of a serial killer targeting sex workers in San Francisco.
Brady said his stories often blend real-world experiences with fictional elements, inspired by the many “fascinating people” he encountered during his law enforcement career.
