A Solihull author has been shortlisted for a prestigious award in recognition of her debut romantic novel. Shelley Wilson, a multi-genre writer and mentor, has been selected as a finalist in the Debut Romantic Novel Award category at the Romantic Novelists’ Association (RNA) Romantic Novel Awards 2025. Her novel, Floating Solo, has earned her a spot among the final contenders.
The RNA awards, which celebrate excellence in romantic fiction, are among the most respected in the UK publishing industry. The recognition is a significant milestone for Wilson, who is also a mother of three and a mentor for aspiring writers.
Wilson shared her excitement upon learning of her nomination. “I was in the pouring rain on my way to Birmingham New Street Station when I found out I’d been shortlisted,” she recalled. “There may have been a giddy dancing in the rain moment! Being a part of the RNA Awards feels like a dream come true.”
The RNA’s chair, Seána Talbot, praised this year’s shortlist, calling it a “tremendous testament to romantic fiction’s diversity and strength.” Talbot emphasized that the shortlist showcases a blend of both emerging and established authors, all of whom contribute significantly to the genre’s continued success.
Founded in 1960, the RNA Romantic Novel Awards have long been a benchmark for excellence in romantic literature. Previous winners include bestselling authors such as Santa Montefiore, Joe Heap, Julie Cohen, and Milly Johnson.
The finalists represent a mix of independent and traditional publishers, reflecting the dynamic and ever-growing market for romantic fiction. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London this May, where Wilson and her fellow nominees will compete for the coveted title.
