Renowned Western North Carolina author Wayne Caldwell, best known for his novels set in the historic Cataloochee Valley, will debut his third book, Shadow Family, during a public reading and signing event this weekend.
Caldwell is scheduled to appear at Blue Ridge Books in Hazelwood on Saturday, April 12, from 1 to 3 p.m., where he will read from his new novel and meet with readers.
A descendant of Cataloochee families, Caldwell was raised in Enka, just across the Haywood County line. His deeply rooted ties to the region continue to shape the stories he tells, capturing the culture and landscape of Appalachia with authenticity and reverence.
Caldwell’s previous novels, Cataloochee and Requiem by Fire, garnered critical acclaim for their rich storytelling and historical insight into life in early 20th-century mountain communities. Shadow Family marks his return to fiction after several years and is anticipated to resonate with both longtime fans and new readers.
