Jamie Flanagan, the screenwriter behind the acclaimed series Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher, has secured a deal to publish two horror novels with Saga Press, the genre imprint of Simon & Schuster. Flanagan, who is also the sibling of famed director Mike Flanagan, has made a significant move into the literary world with these upcoming works.
The first of the two novels, currently titled Deserters, is set in post-World War II Italy. It follows two priests who journey through the countryside in search of lost souls. However, their mission soon takes a terrifying turn, descending into horror. The second novel, which remains untitled, revolves around a young woman who experiences uncontrollable time travel. This story is inspired by Flanagan’s short story Moira, which was featured in last year’s Shadows in the Stacks horror anthology.
Joe Monti, Vice President and Editorial Director at Saga Press, handled the deal, which was brokered by Lane Heymont of the Tobias Literary Agency. Monti expressed his enthusiasm for Flanagan’s writing, stating, “I fell in love with Flanagan’s prose, and perhaps no surprise, the immediate connection I felt with their characters. I’m excited to share what they’re crafting with readers and having them join the stable of award-winning writers like Stephen Graham Jones and Tananarive Due on my list.”
Flanagan is currently involved in the series adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie for Amazon MGM Studios, a project helmed by their brother, Mike Flanagan.
These new novels mark a major step for Flanagan as they continue to build a career both in screenwriting and literature. Fans of their previous work will undoubtedly be eager to see how Flanagan brings their distinct voice to the world of horror fiction.
